Cog Engine Project - Software for creating simple video games

The Cog Engine Project is a Free Software project aimed at simplifying the creation of video games. Users can make their own games with no programming experience necessary, targeting an audience ranging from children to gurus. The goal is to bring as much power and flexibility to the game creator as possible, while still remaining simple enough for a motivated child to use. Games can be graphically-based, text-based, or a combination of the two. Releases are available for GNU/Linux and any Java-capable Web Browser.
