Title: Toward a Global Understanding of $\pi_*(S^n)$

This talk will describe recent advances in getting a global picture of the homotopy groups of spheres. These results begin with the work of Adams on the homotopy determined by K-theory. Substantial new information follows from the nilpotence results of Devinatz, Hopkins and Smith.
