(Comments were formatted by Boris Semenov, NAIF/JPL, on September 3, 2001.) Objects in the Ephemeris -------------------------------------------------------- This file contains ephemeris data for the Asteroid Eros. NAIF ID code for Eros is 2000433. Approximate Time Coverage -------------------------------------------------------- This file covers the following time interval: COVERAGE BEGIN TIME (ET) COVERAGE END TIME (ET) ------------------------ ------------------------ 1999 JAN 03 20:00:00.000 2002 AUG 01 00:00:00.000 Status -------------------------------------------------------- This SPK file contains the Eros orbit solution provided by the NEAR NAV team at JPL to the NEAR project in March 2000 to be used to support Eros orbit phase operations and science data processing. The original release form for this file is provided in the Appendix 1 of these comments. Miller 3/22/00 _____________________________ ________ Orbit Determination Analyst Date Approved By: Bobby G. Williams 3/22/00 _____________________________ ________ NEAR Navigation Chief Date File Description: ################################################################ An Eros ephemeris has been integrated from Jan 3, 1999 to June 30,2002 and is available in SPICE file erosephem_1999004_2002181.xsp on Loring. This ephemeris was computed form radiometric Doppler and range data and optical imaging of Eros. The data arc spanned the time from Eros departure on Jan 3, 1999 to Eros arrival on Feb 14, 2000. The ephemeris position error tracked the previous Eros ephemeris (Eros9633.bsp) within 50 to 90 km. The new ephemeris error is about 10 km over the time of the NEAR mission. Beyond this time interval the ephemeris error will degrade because the new ephemeris does not include historical data that is needed to properly model the mean motion. ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** Summary for SPK file: erosephem_1999004_2002181.bsp Leapseconds File : /usgs/cpkgs/isis3/data/base/kernels/lsk/naif0010.tls Summary Type : Entire File -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Segment ID : asteroid segment Target Body : Body 2000433, EROS Center Body : Body 10, SUN Reference frame: Frame 1, J2000 SPK Data Type : Type 14 Description : Variable Width, Fixed order Chebyshev Polynomials: Pos, Vel UTC Start Time : 1999 JAN 03 19:58:55.816 UTC Stop Time : 2002 JUL 31 23:58:55.817 ET Start Time : 1999 JAN 03 20:00:00.000 ET Stop time : 2002 AUG 01 00:00:00.000 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ********************************************************************************
