************************************************************************ DDN MGT Bulletin: 9404 DISA DDN Defense Communications System 14 Mar 1994 Published by: DDN Network Info Center (NIC@NIC.DDN.MIL) (800) 365-3642 DEFENSE DATA NETWORK MANAGEMENT BULLETIN The DDN MANAGEMENT BULLETIN is distributed online by the DDN Network Information Center under DISA contract as a means of communicating official policy, procedures and other information of concern to management personnel at DDN facilities. Back issues may be read through the TACNEWS server ("@n" command at the TAC) or may be obtained by FTP (or Kermit) from the NIC.DDN.MIL host [192.112.36.5] using login="anonymous" and password="guest". The pathname for bulletins is ddn-news/ddn-mgt-bulletin-nn.txt (where "nn" is the bulletin number). ************************************************************************ Subject: DDN 1-800 FTS 2000 Dial-In Service REQUEST NODE SITE COORDINATORS AND HOST ADMINISTRATORS DISSEMINATE THIS INFORMATION TO ALL THEIR DDN TAC USERS. 1. On the evening of Monday, 28 Mar 94, 2000 hours Eastern Time, the current DDN 1-800 FTS system will be cut over to the FTS 2000 Integrated Customer Network. 2. The new system will retain 1-800 368-2217 as the number to access the MILNET through the non-local TACS. PLEASE NOTE, the LOG-IN PROCEDURES for the new system will change. Under the current 1-800 TAC system, which has 1200 bps modems, users begin their log-in process with a wake-up character. The new 1-800 TAC system will have 9600 bps modems; thus, users must begin their log-in process with a CARRIAGE RETURN, key, for the wake-up character. 3. As a result of this effort, the dial-in access to the 1-800 TACS will improve, because of an increase in telephone lines and a new routing scheme. There will be fewer busy signals when users call the 1-800 TACS. 4. PLEASE ADVISE ALL TAC USERS AT THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE DATE. THIS PROCEDURAL CHANGE WILL SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACT THE TAC USERS' ABILITY TO ACCESS THE MILNET. USERS WHO POSSESS SCRIPT FILES TO ACCOMPLISH AN AUTOMATIC LOG-IN WILL NEED TO CHANGE THEIR SCRIPTS. 5. If customers require additional service, the DDN Customer Help Desk is available to provide assistance.
