The tarcat
utility concatenates several GNU tar
multi-volume
archives into a single archive. It could be useful if you have a multi-volume
archive in old GNU format with some members split between the volumes, and need
to extract them, using a third-party tar
implementation.
The program is a simple shell script: tarcat.
You can also download it from the GNU tar
CVS
repository.
Refer to tarcat documentation for the detailed discussion of the utility and its usage.
The process of recovering split members from various types of multy-volume archives is discussed in detail in the GNU tar documentation.
