GNU and Linux Combined

[image of the Head of a GNU]

If you're using Freshmeat, most likely you're running the operating system which is the combination of GNU and Linux.

This system was first completed around 1992, by combining Linux, the kernel newly written by Linus Torvalds, with the almost-finished GNU operating system, which was complete except for a kernel, after 8 years of work.

If you like the gnu and penguin superheroes, you can buy them on a t-shirt. We can also send you stickers.
