SorceryNet IRC Services

Sorcerynet IRC Services is a program that provides an Internet Relay Chat network with nickname and channel registration and protection. The services supplied are NickServ, ChanServ, MemoServ, GameServ (a dice-rolling service), InfoServ (for broadcast messages) and OperServ, which has clone detection, global autokill and many other features.

Services are mature -- SorceryNet was founded in 1996, and the services were written from scratch in a combination of C and C++.

Licensing

Services is Free Software distributed under a modified BSD License.

We currently use CVS for services' configuration management and you can browse the development source tree on the CVS repository here.

Supported Platforms

SorceryNet Services are known to run on NetBSD, FreeBSD and Linux.

Dependencies

The following additional software packages are needed to correctly build and install the services software:

Basic system utilities including the bourne shell (or better yet, bash), sed, and the GNU Coreutils or an equivalent. (Which the platforms listed above already include.)
The GNU Compiler Collection: both the C and C++ compiler frontends are needed. (Now known to work under GCC 3.4.x)
The PostgreSQL client library, libpq. (optional currently, SQL is not widely used within services, that is an area planned for future development.)
The libxml2 library for processing the statistics files. (optional currently)

For services to be useful, you also need:

A running compatible IRC server based on the SorceryNet IRC Daemon version 1.3.3 or higher configured to allow services to connect to it.
A PostgreSQL database server for services to use (currently optional).
Perl 5 to use some of the utility scripts included with services
