[[SPS]] serves the same purpose as RPM, the Debian packaging system, the Slackware packaging system, Gentoo Portage, etc, but has a completely different (and less limited, in my opinion) methodology.\n\nThe most similar Free Software alternative is [[GNU stow|http://www.gnu.org/software/stow/]]. However, [[SPS]] is quite a bit different from GNU stow, and (again, in my opinion) more flexible.\n\n(On the other hand, the simplicity of GNU stow makes it better in many situations)\n
[[SPS]], the Segregated Packages System, is a [[Free Software|http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html]] packaging system by [[Gregor Richards|http://www.codu.org]] for [[GNU/Linux|http://www.gnu.org/gnu/why-gnu-linux.html]] (though it is portable, and will probably work on GNU/Hurd and others as well).\n\nI'm posting news in SPSNews.\n\nFor the moment, you can go to the [[project page|http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/sps/]].\n
