Kleio 8 for Windows '95 / NT

Please note that at this moment there exists no organised support structure for the kleio software. For the time being it is in principle developed by a group of allied research institutions, for the purposes of these research institutions. It is freely available for other users, provided strictly "as is", however, without any implicit or explicit warranty, promise of support or the like.

The installation of kleio consists of two parts: (a) The actual installation of the software and (b) providing an environment under Windows '95 in which the system can run. For the time being kleio continues to be based on the X Windows system; this means all graphical components of kleio need an "X Emulator" to function under Windos '95.

  1. Basic installation

  1. Installing an X Emulator

Many computing centres provide X-Emulators do make local PCs usable as graphics terminals for UNIX workstations. If this is the case at your site, consult your computing centre about how to use that X Emulator for applications running locally on your harddisk.

If you have no access to such an emulator:

  1. Running kleio interactively under the emulator
  2. In all cases you will have to activate the X-Emulator explicitly via the Windows Start menu, before activating kleio from the MS-DOS Window. (The emulator stays resident, however, when you stop a specific invocation of kleio.) Some X-Emulators require, that you explicitly raise the emulator to the top of the desk top, before you can work in it.

  3. Note

The provision of the demo version of the X-Win32 emulator does not in any way constitute a recommendation to buy that product. Of all tested X Emulators, it has provided the best performance, however and it seems to be very reasonably priced.
