================================================================== /servers/httpd/htdocs/ftp/pub/Smalltalk/stx/CATALOG-CARD ================================================================== NAME Smalltalk/X 2.0 Demo Distribution AUTHOR Claus, cg@ssw.de FUNCTION * ST-VERSIONS Linux, SGI, and Ultrix PREREQUISITES See Below THEN FILE IN * CONFLICTS WITH * DISTRIBUTION world VERSION ID 2.0 VERSION DATE 24 May 95 SUMMARY See Below As of May 24, 1995 the files in this directory represent the complete release of the second demo distribution of Smalltalk/X for the Linux, Ultrix, and SGI operating systems. As of this date, there are two more versions still to be transferred- one for Next, and one for Solaris. Most information needed to get up and running will be found in the README file, with OS-specific information added in the README.linux, README.sgi, and README.ultrix files. Licensing and copyright information can be found in the LICENSE and COPYRIGHT files. The README file describes the minimally neccessary files to get up and running. If you want the full distribution, do the following: 1. Get the README, LICENSE, and COPYRIGHT files. These are required for any copy. 2. Get the OS-specific image/vm and README for your OS: Linux: linux.tar.gz and README.linux Ultrix: ultrix.tar.gz and README.ultrix SGI: sgi5.tar.gz and README.sgi5 Note that you only need one of the above for any given OS. 3. Grab all the rest of the *.gz files ( except the images! ): c_bitmaps1.tar.gz c_bitmaps2.tar.gz c_doc.tar.gz c_source.tar.gz c_goodies.tar.gz c_misc.tar.gz 4. By this time you will have figured out that these files are compressed using gzip, and archived using tar. Familiarity with these utilities is assumed, but if not: use gzip -d someFile.tar.gz to decompress, then use tar xvf someFile.tar to de-archive. The tar command will generate the directory structure and de-archive the files. Again, information about this can be found in the README files.
