CHAPTER 1606--EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE FOR MEMBERS OF THE SELECTED RESERVE
 
Sec. 16137. Biennial report to Congress

    The Secretary of Defense shall submit to Congress a report not later 
than March 1 of each odd-numbered year concerning the operation of the 
educational assistance program established by this chapter during the 
preceding two fiscal years. Each such report shall include the number of 
members of the Selected Reserve of the Ready Reserve of each armed force 
receiving, and the number entitled to receive, educational assistance 
under this chapter during those fiscal years. The Secretary may submit 
the report more frequently and adjust the period covered by the report 
accordingly.

                               Amendments

    1999--Pub. L. 106-65 amended section catchline and text generally. 
Prior to amendment, text read as follows: ``The Secretary of Defense 
shall submit to the Congress a report not later than March 1 of each 
year concerning the operation of the educational assistance program 
established by this chapter during the preceding fiscal year. Each such 
report shall include the number of members of the Selected Reserve of 
the Ready Reserve of each armed force receiving, and the number entitled 
to receive, educational assistance under this chapter during the 
preceding fiscal year.''
    1996--Pub. L. 104-106 substituted ``March 1 of each year'' for 
``December 15 of each year''.
    1994--Pub. L. 103-337 renumbered section 2137 of this title as this 
section.


                             Effective Date

    Section effective July 1, 1985, applicable only to members of the 
Armed Forces who qualify for educational assistance under this chapter 
on or after such date, see section 705(b) of Pub. L. 98-525, set out as 
an Effective Date of 1984 Amendment note under section 16131 of this 
title.
