                    SUBCHAPTER I--GENERAL PROVISIONS
 
Sec. 3506. Travel and subsistence expenses of officers and 
        employees in connection with attendance at meetings or in 
        performing advisory services
        
    To the extent and under the conditions provided by regulations of 
the Secretary, officers (including commissioned officers of the Public 
Health Service) and employees of the Department of Health and Human 
Services may on and after June 29, 1957, in connection with their 
attendance at meetings or in performing advisory services concerned with 
the functions or activities of the Department, be permitted to accept 
payment, in cash or in kind, from non-Federal agencies, organizations, 
and individuals, for travel and subsistence expenses, to be retained by 
them to cover the cost thereof or deposited to the credit of the 
appropriation from which the cost thereof is paid, as may be provided, 
in such regulations.

the general revision and enactment of Title 5, Government Organization 
and Employees, by Pub. L. 89-554, Sec. 1, Sept. 1, 1966, 80 Stat. 378.

                          Transfer of Functions

    Functions of Public Health Service, Surgeon General of Public Health 
Service, and all other officers and employees of Public Health Service, 
and functions of all agencies of or in Public Health Service transferred 
to Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare by Reorg. Plan No. 3 of 
1966, eff. June 25, 1966, 31 F.R. 8855, 80 Stat. 1610, set out in the 
Appendix to Title 5, Government Organization and Employees. Secretary of 
Health, Education, and Welfare redesignated Secretary of Health and 
Human Services by section 509(b) of Pub. L. 96-88, which is classified 
to section 3508(b) of Title 20, Education.
