Sec. 3757. State office

    (a) The chief executive of each participating State shall designate 
a State office for purposes of--
        (1) preparing an application to obtain funds under section 3753 
    of this title;
        (2) administering funds received under such section from the 
    Director, including receipt, review, processing, monitoring, 
    progress and financial report review, technical assistance, grant 
    adjustments, accounting, auditing and fund disbursements; and
        (3) coordinating the distribution of funds provided under this 
    subchapter with State agencies receiving Federal funds for drug 
    abuse education, prevention, treatment, and research activities and 
    programs.

    (b) An office or agency performing other functions within the 
executive branch of a State may be designated to carry out the functions 
specified in subsection (a) of this section.

                          Transfer of Functions

    Effective Aug. 1, 2000, all functions of Director of Bureau of 
Justice Assistance, other than those enumerated in section 3742(3) to 
(6) of this title, transferred to Assistant Attorney General for Office 
of Justice Programs, see section 1000(a)(1) [title I, Sec. 108(b)] of 
Pub. L. 106-113, set out as a note under section 3741 of this title.
