1.5 Upgrading from Windows NT 3.1 to 3.5

This procedure describes how to load the drivers required for your RAID
controller when you upgrade from Windows NT 3.1 to 3.5. The procedure varies
depending upon whether you use your SWXCR-Ex RAID controller as a data
only device, or as the bootable controller for Windows.

NOTE: The x in SWXCR-Ex represents SWXCR-EA, 1-channel RAID controller; or
SWXCR-EB, 3-channel RAID controller.

1.5.1 Upgrading for a Data Only Device Controller

To upgrade from Windows NT 3.1 to 3.5 with the SWXCR-Ex RAID as a
bootable controller you need to do the following:

    - Disable old SWXCR driver
    - Perform upgrade and confirm driver installation

1.5.1.1 Disabling Old SWXCR Driver

To disable the old SWXCR driver, follow these steps:

    1. Click on the Control Panel icon in the Program Manager. The Control
       Panel appears.

    2. Click on the Devices icon in the Control Panel.

    3. Use the scroll bar on the right to find the swxcrdrv.sys entry.

    4. Highlight the swxcrdrv.sys entry and click on the Startup Button.

    5. Change the Startup option to Disabled.

1.5.1.2 Performing Upgrade and Confirming Driver Installation

    1. Select Run from the Program Manager File menu. Type the letter for the
device in which you loaded the Windows NT 3.5 upgrade distribution
media followed by: \i386\winnt32 to start the upgrade. Follow the
setup procedures specified in your Windows NT 3.5 upgrade kit.
Windows NT 3.5 will automatically load the new driver for the
SWXCR-Ex RAID controller. The driver will appear during setup as the
Mylex DAC960/DEC SWXCR-Ex controller. The driver name will appear as
       DAC960NT.SYS.

    2. After completing the Windows NT 3.5 upgrade procedures, and rebooting
your system, click on the Control Panel icon in the Program Manager.
       The Control Panel appears.

    3. Click on the Devices icon in the Control Panel.

    4. Use the scroll bar on the right to find the DAC960NT.SYS.

    5. Highlight DAC960NT.SYS and click on the Startup button.

    6. Change the Startup option to Boot.

    7. Verify that the startup for the swxcrdrv.sys appears disabled.

    8. Open an MS-DOS window or the File Manager, then delete the old driver,
swxcrdrv.sys, from the root directory of Windows NT system files,
WINNT\system32\drivers, for example. (WINNT is the default root
    directory.)

   9. Copy the new driver, DAC960NT.SYS from the root directory of the RAID
Array 200 Software V2.0 for Windows NT Intel floppy diskette to the
      WINNT\system32\drivers directory.

   10. Reboot your system for the new driver to take effect.
