------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note to ftp site maintainers: tsx-11.mit.edu -- intended dir is /pub/linux/ALPHA/IDE-performance/ sunsite.unc.edu -- intended dir is /pub/Linux/kernel/patches/diskdrives/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- First off, note that IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) is what the "real" people call ATA (For AT Attachment). This is because it can be used for more than just disk drives. (...now tapes, CD-ROMS, etc.) This mailing list is relatively low traffic, with representatives from the various commercial companies on board (see the Majordomo "who" command.) It can't hurt for a few Linux hackers to be on the list. Also note that the message below mentions the ftp site fission.dt.wdc.com On this site, in /pub/standards/ata you can find the file "ata.archive" which is a ~2MB archive of the mailing list over the past year or so. If you want to see what sort of content the list has (or to catch up) before subscribing, have a look at that. The actual ata standards should also be in subdirs here, or you can get them from "ftp.ncr.com". There is also mailing lists (called "reflectors" by this mob) for ATAPI (ATA Packet Interface), SFF and SCSI stuff, which may interest you as well. Here is the info message I got from subscribing. It tells you how to subscribe and post to the ATA list. Happy ATA hacking! Majordomo does not scan the subject line so make sure you place your commands in the body of the e-mail. Since Majordomo handles several different lists make sure you include the when you subscribe and unsubscribe. 3) Sending Mail to the Reflector: The e-mail addresses for the public reflectors supported by Western Digital are: ata@dt.wdc.com ssa@dt.wdc.com atapi@dt.wdc.com You do not need to subscribe to send a message via these reflectors; however, non-member e-mail may need to be approved before it is forwarded. 4) FTP Availability: Each of the supported reflector lists has an anonymous FTP directory which is available at "fission.dt.wdc.com". Presently the following directories are available. fission.dt.wdc.com /pub/atapi/SFF8020r1.1 {SFF 8020 r1.1 ATAPI eps & rtf files} /pub/ata/X3T9791D {X3T9 791D ATA 4a ASCII & rtf files} /pub/sff/SFF8020r1.1 {SFF 8020 r1.1 ATAPI eps & rtf files} /pub/sff/SFF8011r1.2 {SFF 8011 r1.2 Local bus timing text files} Note that the above list of FTP directories is only an example since the actual directory structure will change as new documents are made available. At some future date a history file of reflected mail will be available in the FTP directory for each reflector. This should help first time users and users with unreliable e-mail delivery. 5) If You Encounter Problems: If you encounter internet addressing problems while using this reflector please e-mail "Majordomo-owner@dt.wdc.com". If you have problems or suggestions regarding how the reflector is managed please send them to "hanan_t@a1.wdc.com".
