How to Run

In the Recettear install folder, double-click on recettear.exe (pictured). If you wish to create a shortcut for your desktop, simply right-click the Recettear icon and select "Create Shortcut", and then drag "Shortcut to recettear" to your desktop.
Configuration

In the Recettear folder, double click on custom.exe (pictured). A window will open with configuration options.

Window Style | Fullscreen will make the game take up all available screen space, while Windowed will run the game in a normal window (to allow for easier multitasking). |
---|---|
FPS Limit |
This option allows you to limit the number of frames the game renders every second; on slower machines, this will result in overall smoother gameplay and response time at the cost of visual smoothness. Note that any option below "30" will result significantly less smooth animation, and should only be utilized if using all other options fails or on very old or weak machines. |
Screen Resolution |
Allows you to choose the resolution the game renders at. Decrease for significant performance gains (at the cost of visual quality). |
Show FPS Counter | Adds a counter to the bottom right corner of the screen so that you can see if the game is slowing down on your computer. |
Don't display trees outside of map | Use this option to disable the rendering of trees in dungeons that are not wholly visible on the map; this can improve performance. |
Use simple models in dungeons | This option reduces the level of detail found on various dungeon creatures. |
No light processing in dungeons | This option disables all light processing in dungeons; this can improve performance. |
Don't use fog | This option disables the rendering of fog in the client; on certain maps this can improve performance. |
No light processing in store |
This option disables all light processing in the shop; in certain situations this can greatly improve performance.
|
Don't draw people outside the store |
This option disables all of the "window browsers" who appear outside the shop; in crowded situations this can improve performance. |
Disable complex lights |
This option prevents the game from rendering complex lights (such as multi-source lights); this can improve performance. |
Lower resolution map textures |
This options reduces the quality of the textures used on all the maps in the game; this can improve performance a good deal for a loss of significant visual quality. |
Disable Mipmaps |
Prevents the shading of distant textures to make them look more natural; this improves performance but textures can look less clear at distances.
|
Keyboard | Allows you to alter the keys assigned to various game functions. |
Gamepad | Allows you to alter the gamepad buttons assigned to various game functions. Note that assigning up, down etc. to the proper joystick positions will also assign them to the proper d-pad positions (and vice versa). Recettear requires a DirectX-compatible gamepad. |
Clear Assignment | Press this if you wish to skip this particular button assignment (if your gamepad has less than five buttons, for example). |
How to Uninstall
Recettear can be deleted manually at any time; the game makes no registry entries on your computer.
