Xsun.TCX24.README April 19, 1999 Alec A. Kosky alec@dakotacom.net Here is a patch to X11R6.4 that will allow the Xserver (XSun24 and perhaps XFree86, but I don't have SparcLinux running to test) to use Sun Microsystems' TCX (aka SS24) framebuffer as an accelerated 24-bit framebuffer instead of a dumb 8-bit framebuffer. I cannot say that I wrote much of it - most of it came from some patch that the SparcLinux group had written for X11R6.1 (but I cannot find any documentation on who wrote that patch, please forgive me for not giving credit). I merely updated the patch for X11R6.4 and made a few minor tweaks to get it working nicely. I have been running the patched server on a Sparc 5 (Solaris 7) with the TCX framebuffer for about 2 weeks now with no problems. To apply this patch: cd patch -p0 < Xsun.TCX24.patch Follow directions in INSTALL.{TXT|PS} This patch was made against the stock R6.4 sources (i.e. R6.4pl0). I have not tried to apply it to any other sources. If this patch works for you (and if it doesn't!), please let me know. I would like to continue to work on this patch and improve it. If you have improvements or bugfixes, send them to me at the address above.
