q: what is olsw(1)? a: olsw(1) is a tool to save the work spaces managed by open look's window manager olwm(1) and olvwm(1). this program is a hybird of x11r6.1's xlsclients(1) and xwininfo(1). i only ported it on solaris 2.5 with x11r6.1, but it should also whereever olwm(1) and olvwm(1) work. i had also made it work with tvtwm(1). this is the first version of olsw(1) (jan 16, 1996) q: how to install olsw? a: since it's using imake(1). the work is easy. xmkmf make install make clean that's done. the complete package including this readme and GetVRoot.c olsw.c IMakefile olsw.man olvwm_patch/README olvwm_patch/virtual.c q: I find that the output for cm(1) is strange. a: cm(1) exists as two children of the root window. one iconed and one not. when i execute olsw, i always get the deiconified one. while when i use xwininfo(1) and click mouse on the iconed one, xwininfo reports the iconed one. q: How to make tcl program ICCCM compliant. a: add the following two lines near the end of your program wm command . "$argv0 $argv" wm client . [ exec hostname ] maybe also 'wm size ...' q: when i invoke olsw from a (logical) screen in olvwm(1) other than the first one, the output is messed up. a: yes. this is because the olvwm(1) doesn't make use a virtual root window, it resets the absolute coordinates whenever you move among logical screens. Hence, the first (logical) screen will have negative coodinates when you are not in it. i have made a patch (or workaround) to its olvwmrc(5) built-in command 'MOVE_DISKTOP'. see 'olvwm_patch' in my package. BTW: i am looking a job. any help is appreciated. Sat Jan 18 20:52:43 EST 1997 -tianhua han, than@lucent.com
