not really, we're about an hour or so north of the Gulf of Mexico coast.
From what I know, "Tallahassee" is an Apalachee Indian word which means
something like "abandoned fields" or "old town". In the 1500s when more and
more Spanish settlers came into North Florida the Apalachee Indians eventually
left, leaving behind an abandoned village. That's where the name Tallahassee
comes from, and was used a few hundred years later when the city was
officially created to become the new State capitol.
