Indeed. What would also help is reports of runs against (commercial,
but not necessarily) test benches where applicable. E.g. for PCI, there
are test benches and reference models in various forms and qualities.

What would also be good is some way to store user comments directly
related to a project (*not* a mailing list archive). From all the
approaches to this I have seen so far, a wiki is the best IMO (see
e.g. emacswiki.org for an example.  Anybody can edit and create
pages in a wiki). Each project could get its own wiki page, to be
used as a starting point for a whole hierarchy of pages. Taking the
PCI core example again, I would add some points that I would like to
see implemented in a test bench (and one day know about the results
:). Also, there were quite some good tips on implementing a PCI core
in the newsgroups, and a wiki would be perfect for collecting these.
