Qt is very cool, and if you wanna develop some KDE Applications, it's
definitively the way to go.
But I think that MicroWindows (http://www.microwindows.org/) could be a
quick & dirty option, and with WxWindows Embedded
(http://www.wxwindows.org/embedded.htm#wxmwin) a viable platform.
However, I didn't know anything about the memory footprints of the
aproaches above...
