all 4 are good simulators. Suggest you ask the question to your
friendly Mentor, Synopsys and Cadence salefolk. Thats their job.

some things to consier would be design size, raw speed and user
interface.  Modelsim seems to me slower but more interactive.
If you want to batch things quickly (1) or (3) are better choices.
If you want interactive, probably (4). 

modelsim is better for mixed mode. not quite as good for pure verilog.

for speed, big designs, memory footprint (1) and (3) probably win out. 

XL is probably better then NC for a design thats not particularly
synchronous, and smaller. but XL is getting old now.

any of these are likely qualified as signoff simulators by most
silicon vendors. they work.
