The aim of the project is to build and offer the mathematical community a platform for peer-reviewed open access journals using open source software. The platform will be based on the “Open Journal System” (OJS) software and later be linked closely to the digital library eLibM that already provides a wide range of mathematical journals. A broad mathematics-specific infrastructure is set up which is tailored to the specific requirements of the entire publication workflow – from writing the article to its publication. The main focuses are specifically tailored solutions for mathematical demands e.g. the processing and management of LaTeX manuscripts, mathematical formula search and inclusion of mathematical software. This infrastructure is flanked by optional value-added services provided by FIZ Karlsruhe, such as technical and organizational support in using the platform, editorial services, metadata standardization, reference linking, etc.
Publishers are free to choose the type and scope of services which best meet their needs. A financial model is developed that will ensure cost-effective use and maintenance as well as the long-term availability of the platform. The project was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the funding period covers the years 2016–2017.
